Done with Dan
I have now read all 4 books authored by Dan Brown. The enthusiasm started off with the hoopla surrounding 'The Da Vinci Code'. Natural expectations drove me to get my hands on 'Angels and Demons'. The book was good enough to make me buy my own copy of 'Deception Point'. After reading that, I decided that I would rather rent 'Digital Fortress'
In the order of my liking (descending) ..
Da Vinci Code : Deifinitely, this was the best of 'em all. Dan's way of writing was very impressive and enchanting. He would make a wonderful Bollywood (even better Kolly/Tolly wood) director.
The way he mixed the facts with fiction was amazing.
The plot begins with a 2-page murder, followed by a phone-call to a professor at an unearthly hour. As usual, the plot thickens to involve a beautiful partner (It always has to be a beautiful partner !!!). Was a trail-blazer in setting the pace from Page 1.
Angels & Demons : Same theme. Murder, phone call, professor, heroine ... but it was still captivating. En effet, there were a few points during the course of the novel when I felt that it deserved more success than Da Vinci Code. But Dan does seem to give away the suspense a bit too early.
Deception Point : The name says it all. Truly deceived by Dan's theesra (a la Saqlain's doosra). Pathetic novel. Sets the pace well, but the book gets monotonous and Shankarish (same plot for most of his movies). The final 100 pages were like watching a 3-hero 'subject' movie starring Vijaykanth, Sunny Deol and Balakrishna. PLEASE AVOID IF POSSIBLE, EVEN IF YOU GET THE BOOK FOR FREE ! Can't be more subtle than that !!!
Digital Fortress : The Final Frontier it was ....
Story begins the same way. An urgent phone call ... hero and heroine meet during a Mission Critical. Being a techie, could relate a lot of jargon spewed out in the novel. Nice one, this book.
I felt the simplicity of the pass code was a bit too shallow though.
All said and done, am now eagerly waiting for Dan's next book.
Till then, it is Been there , Dan that !
